Having a chat with famous (ish) people and having no idea who they are.
Happened a few times.

Danni Minogue , Joss Stone and Timberland are the most obvious ones . In all three cases was only told who they were after the event.

Any amusing “don’t you know who I am stories?”

Billy Bonds lived just down the road from me in Chislehurst. Obviously he has since moved out from his big house. Is he still in Chislehurst?

Dave Grohl is a West Ham fan , Peckham, so you will have something to chat about if you see him again.

Wasn't sure if he lived there but remember reading that Billy Bonds spent a lot of time in Dorset as he is a big fan of the novels of Thomas Hardy.

1964,

They're very nice apartments. The roof terrace bit is probably bigger than other people's entire apartments.

Spandex, yes I know.

Why would it be strange Bonzo moving into an apartment block? His weary bones are probably tired of gardening.
That fat bastard Allardyce lived in a Canary Wharf block of flats for years before being evicted by Dildo one.

Rather than start a new thread ... I was in the 'Music Machine' in Camden one weekday evening and I found myself standing at the bar next to the bass player of the Glitter Band (this was before GG was caught out as a nonce).
I turned to him and said, 'You're John Springate. My cousin Pat fucking loves you!'
He looked like he'd shit himself and disappeared. Five minutes later, I feel a tap on my shoulder, turn around and he's there with this blond. 'Excuse me', he says, 'can you tell my wife what you just told me?'
Like to think I made his night.

Find that a bit strange - or not?

few weeks ago I was working in a an apartment block on the day an older couple were moving in. Chatted to them quite a bit as they were having issues with the lift. Kept thinking, I'm sure I know this guy.

After a couple of hours suddenly realised it was Billy Bonds.

Oh the shame.

Glad to say that even before the penny dropped I thought they were really nice people and a good laugh. Obviously, once I realised, I turned into a nervous schoolboy.

In the coat queue at Camden Underworld got chatting to some massive fucking wino, he was all over the place but a good laugh. Later I was reliably informed it was Terry Hall. He was a fucking mess. But nice.

Not that interesting really. I've wasted everyone's time. Shrug.

I went to the Y club to watch local and up coming bands and was having a pint with this boss eyed blond fella at the bar. Seemed alright but a bit awkward.

Later that night he is on stage slagging off radio 1 because they wouldn’t play his bands song which would have made them big. He then goes into Creep and the rest is history.

Re: Having a chat with famous (ish) people and having no idea who they are.
Mrs Southbank works in television/film production, and so do many of her friends, so this happens to me reasonably regularly.

I've never been a star-fucker, so many apparently famous people (usually telly/film types) just sort of pass me by.

I once had a long conversation with Damien Lewis before my wife reminded me who he was. He's a really nice bloke, very funny and quite cerebral, and didn't seem to me to be a telly-type celeb at all. He didn't take himself seriously - we had a good laugh.

When he wandered off to fetch us all some drinks, I turned to the woman next to me and said: 'I had no idea who he was at first, but he's a top bloke.'

She said: 'I hope so - he's my husband.'

It was Helen McCrory. Didn't have a clue. Turns out she's annoyingly lovely, too.

I'll speak to anybody like they're just normal, so my wife gets nervous when I go to any parties/gatherings where the "don't approach me" type stars are there. There's a good chance I won't recognise some of them, and will strike up a conversation about any old shit.

My favourite incidents always involve the "stars" who think they're much bigger than they are, though, because there is a good chance I'll not recognise them - and say their show is shit or something.

There's a terrible comedy on telly at the moment. I met the writer/lead actor at a gathering and, without knowing, said: 'I saw the first episode - didn't laugh once: it was awful.'

He flounced off and complained that I'd been invited. I just assumed he was part of the production crew, who don't take the material personally!

Once spent a night drinking with John Nokes among a lot of others in the bar (when he was doing his sailing round the country show), woke up the next morning and the memory couldn't have been more surreal if it had been Fred Flintstone or Top Cat

I've nearly met loads of famous actress, and probably actually spent time in their bedroom.

I used to live in the ex-actors' village in Beaconsfield, where the stars used to stay when filming at Pinewood and other English studios.

When I say "nearly", I mean I was in exactly the same place, and separated by a mere fifty years...

Craig Bellamy in Penarth, should have twigged earlier - the white trousers, leather jacket and orange tan were all pointers.

Yes, Wall Hall, that is IT, well done that man! That building could tell some tales... Your Mrs was there a bit later than my g/f then, all my visiting down there was 75/76/77 at a guess. Happy days. The whole of the 70s was just bloody brilliant for me, especially 1976, the Long Hot Summer...

Mike - looks like it's all a posh private development now.
